Botox Training Helps Physicians Battle New Healthcare Bill

May 3, 2010 |

Physicians are now facing unprecedented uncertainty with the proposed Healthcare Bill. Membership in non-insurance based medical procedure organizations like the International Association of Physicians In Aesthetic Medicine’s (IAPAM) are exploding as physician try and plan for their future. The first step for these physicians is attending the Aesthetic Medicine Symposium, a program that gives physicians a starting point on offering non-insurance based procedures like Botox Training, Cosmetic Laser Training, and finally the most popular, hCG for Weight Loss Training.

Why Aesthetic Medicine? Consumers want to invest in their appearance again.  The evidence can be found in surveys, like the recently released American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ (ASPS’s) 2010 Report of the 2009 Statistics.  The ASPS reports that, even in an economic downturn, “minimally-invasive procedures increased 1 percent, to nearly 11 million procedures in 2009, and minimally-invasive procedures are up 99 percent since 2000.”

“Skin is in,” said Dr. Michael McGuire, ASPS President. “Chemical peels and soft tissue fillers like hyaluronic acid are up 9 percent, microdermabrasion is up 8 percent – these are the procedures that patients are opting for despite the economy.”  Interestingly, “cosmetic surgical procedures decreased 9 percent, with more than 1.5 million procedures in 2009.”

Moreover, there have been encouraging reports from companies like Botox manufacturer, Allergan.  Allergan Inc.’s first-quarter earnings soared on climbing sales for Botox and other aesthetic products, reinforcing the message that people are ready to reach into their pockets to look better in this recovering economy.

Coupled with this market surge, physicians are finding that  “the recent US healthcare bill has created huge interest in non-insurance covered medical procedures like medically supervised weight loss and minimally invasive aesthetic procedures,” comments IAPAM Executive Director, Jeff Russell.   Doctors looking to grow their healthcare businesses are wise to consider the addition of cosmetic services, not covered by Medicare or Medicaid.  Such offerings might include aesthetic medicine treatments as well as medical weight management.

To serve this timely educational and business development need, the IAPAM’s Aesthetic Medicine Symposium offers customized, clinical training from botox to hCG for weight loss.

The IAPAM Training Difference

Botox training is the central component of the IAPAM’s June Aesthetic Medicine Symposium, which offers comprehensive instruction on the top 5 minimally invasive procedures as reported by the ASPS: Botox injection, soft tissue fillers; chemical peels, medical microdermabrasion and laser hair removal.  The key to success in the aesthetic industry is not performing one procedures, but combining treatments giving your patients the results they desire.  Moreover, “physicians now see the importance in not having botox training in an unclean hotel room, and are choosing the IAPAM’s aesthetic medicine symposium since its done in a clean medical practice which gives them the opportunity to learn proper botox injection technique,” says Russell.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Jennifer Linder, emphasizes that “any effective training program should provide tips on how to give an effective consultation with each patient. This should include a thorough evaluation of the individual characteristics of the face, a comprehensive discussion with the patient regarding risks and benefits, and most importantly, how to appropriately set and manage realistic patient expectations.” Fellow IAPAM faculty member, dermatologist Dr. Toni C. Stockton, instructs registrants on the latest technologies and products, from Botox to Dysport. She also educates physicians on dealing with possible adverse events due to the procedure.

Also, the Friday before every Aesthetic Medicine Symposium is devoted to outfitting physicians with all the tools and resources needed to successfully offer a complete hCG/Medical Weight Management program to their patients.  The IAPAM’s new exclusive hCG/Medical Weight Loss Training offers physicians a profitable add-on to any existing practice. Finally, the IAPAM’s Aesthetic Practice Start-Up Workshop, offered on the Monday after each Aesthetic Medicine Symposium, is dedicated to providing healthcare business training, based on Harvard Business School principals, so that doctors can ensure that they profitably add aesthetic medicine procedures to their practices.
