IAPAM’s hCG Training Educates Physicians in Medical Weight Management Best Practices
September 29, 2010
The IAPAM is committed to educating physicians in the industry’s best practices for medical weight loss management. In support of this commitment, the IAPAM’s hCG Physician Training offers doctors a unique program of unsurpassed clinical and business content on medical weight management. Attendees receive tools to help them launch their weight management program, and with their IAPAM Membership, they also receive a year of practice support including access to the IAPAM Members Portal, containing a wealth of medical weight management resources, such as expert answers to common hCG questions.
In its annual report, F is for Fat 2010, the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation found that adult obesity rates climbed in 28 states in 2009, and now exceed 25 percent in more than two-thirds of the US, with rates higher among Blacks and Latinos. Given this widespread epidemic, more and more patients are asking their physicians about weight loss strategies, and one of the most discussed is hCG.
However, physicians must be consummately trained in the delivery of an hCG Protocol to ensure success and safety for their patients. In response, the IAPAM has created the most complete and comprehensive Medical Weight Management program covering hCG for weight loss. Physicians and their staff will learn the exclusive IAPAM hCG for Weight Loss Protocol. Physicians, who attend the IAPAM’s weight loss program, will learn weight management best practices from the IAPAM’s members and faculty (physicians, pharmacists, laser assisted lipolysis specialists and business experts), all of whom have years of experience utilizing hCG for weight loss. HCG for Weight Loss: Fad or Good Medicine?
September 28, 2010
You’ve tried everything to lose weight. You’ve tried the latest and greatest diet or fat-melting workout. You’ve tried weight-loss supplements and prescription medications. No matter: You’re heavier than ever. You now hear about this new treatment called HCG and want to know if it works. Sound familiar?
I am asked about HCG every day; interest is soaring.
Physicians are using human chorionic gonadotropin, known as HCG, to help individuals lose weight. This is not a new therapy. It was originally used for weight loss in the 1950s after a study demonstrated its effectiveness.
There has been some controversy regarding its effectiveness because a few studies did not show significant benefit with its use, but a subsequent double-blind placebo-controlled study found that, compared with placebo, the use of HCG resulted in significantly more weight loss, reduced appetite and an improved sense of well-being and energy. It has also been shown to selectively reduce fat, producing a healthier weight loss that spares muscle and boosts metabolism.
Safety has not been a significant concern because HCG is normally produced in large quantities by the placenta during pregnancy. In comparison, the doses used for weight loss are very small. There are over 1,000,000 units of HCG produced per day during pregnancy, while the dose used for weight loss is typically 125-150 units per day. At this dose, side effects are very uncommon, and hundreds of thousands of patients have been safely treated with HCG for weight loss over the past 60 years. Read more
IAPAM Links MedSpa Growth to Demand for Physician Botox Training
September 27, 2010
The IAPAM recently identified a correlation between the increase in physicians engaging in the IAPAM’s comprehensive, hands-on Botox Training, and the significant growth in botox and dermal filler procedures.
As announced in a recent report by iData Research, the market for aesthetic medicine modalities (botox, dermal fillers, lasers, etc.) is expected to almost double, and exceed $3 billion over the next seven years. The report estimates that the market for procedures such as Botox will grow to $543 million by 2017, and that skin resurfacing, hair removal and laser lipolysis are the fastest-growing segments of the aesthetic medicine market.
Jeff Russell, Executive Director of the IAPAM, concurs with the findings of iData Research. ”We are hearing from our members that minimally invasive procedures like cosmetic injectables, medically supervised hCG weight loss as well as microdermabrasion and chemical peels are in tremendous demand by patients, and we are seeing a correlating increase in the demand for our training. Registration for our cornerstone training program, the IAPAM’s Aesthetic Medicine Symposium, has dramatically increased in the last 9 months. We have sold out every session in 2010. Physicians are realizing they not only need to offer botox treatments to their patients, but also laser hair removal, IPL skin rejuvenation, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion. Organizations, like the IAPAM, educate physicians on how to package these treatments for the most appealing and profitable outcomes.” Read more

New TotalFX Reduces Signs of Aging in a Single Treatment
September 16, 2010
Laser Cliniqúe, San Diego’s premier medical spa, introduces TotalFX, the latest non-invasive technology for reducing the signs of aging.
Millions of Americans seek relief from the signs of an aging complexion, which includes fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, age spots, sun spots and uneven skin tone and texture. Laser Cliniqúe, San Diego’s premier medical spa, is proud to offer TotalFX fractional laser resurfacing technique. This procedure is the latest treatment for painlessly and efficiently eliminating the signs of aging.
For today’s more active population, the prolonged healing time involved with conventional laser or face-lift surgery is not appropriate. Dr. P. Alexander Ataii, Medical Director of Laser Cliniqúe, offers TotalFX for patients seeking a less-invasive, highly-effective skin rejuvenation procedure because it treats fine lines, pigmentation, enlarged pores, age spots and uneven skin tones in a single treatment. Patients typically only experience five to seven days of downtime. TotalFX also helps scarring, such as deep pitted acne scars, due to the increase of collagen stimulation with this treatment.
The treatment does more than soften the appearance of imperfections; it can actually eliminate evidence of sun damage and aging, providing a comprehensive and long-lasting solution. In fact, improvement continues long after treatment. In the months following treatment, new collagen is generated deep in the skin, plumping it, improving its elasticity and continuing the improvement of the texture of the skin.
During the procedure, a high-energy beam of laser light is used to smooth out lines, wrinkles and scars, and remove dark sun spots and other irregularities, layer by layer. The Encore Ultrapulse CO2 laser that performs the procedure is a proven gold standard laser in skin rejuvenation that tightens skin and leads to collagen and elastin production.
