IAPAM hCG Protocol and Metabolism

May 28, 2010

Jeff Russell, IAPAMOk, I have been off the hCG diet program for 90 days, so I decided to have my “after” RMR (resting metabolic rate) tested.   As you may remember, one of the supposed benefits of going on a hCG weight loss program was that it resets your metabolism.  So before I starting the hCG diet program I had my RMR tested, and now that I have been off the diet, and eating normal food for the last 90 days, I thought I would check it again to see if my metabolism did increase.  Well to my surprise it …. 16 Plateau Breaking Tips that we have found very effective when following Phase 2 on the HCG Diet Protocol

May 26, 2010

1. Increase your fluid intake to 2-3 quarts per day. Additional fluids will assist in promoting adequate digestion, help prevent constipation and may help to flush out toxins and fat.

2. Try increasing your protein by half an ounce. You may not be eating enough calories per day. Avoid consuming less than 550 calories daily because your body may go into “starvation mode” and store fat.

3. The “apple day”. Reduce your fluid intake by 1 quart and eat 6 apples throughout the day. This method typically will rid the body of excess fluids and most patients state they lose about 2 pounds. This method is not recommended on a continuous basis.

4. Limit your red meat serving to once per week. Red meat digests slowly in the bowel and may slow down weight loss.

5. Make sure you are not using garlic salt. Sea salt and garlic powder are acceptable. All seasoning salts or seasoning products should not be used when on the HCG diet.

6. Do not mix vegetables. Read more

Controversial hormone injections could hold the secret to youth

May 26, 2010

Researchers are trying to figure out how to extend our vigor into old age, and a controversial hormone injection might be the answer.

Baby boomers, some 79-million strong, are going gray, but many are refusing to surrender their youth without a fight.

Scientists are split over whether there’s a biological limit to how old a human can get.

Some bet the first person who will live to 150 was born by the year 2000.

However, living a long life isn’t enough. Researchers are trying to figure out how to extend our vigor.

John Bellizzi’s routine is a lot like anyone else’s, but this 51-year-old is willing to go a lot further than most of us to keep fit. Twice a week he gives himself a shot.

“The one that I take is made from urine from pregnant women,” says John.

John is part of a growing group of men who are using human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG—an injection of testosterone.

“I’ve had people come up to me and say, ‘What? Are you nuts?’ With the added testosterone in my body, I build muscle mass quicker. I have more vigor. I’m thinking faster,” says John.

His stats prove something is working. In two years he’s dropped and kept off 16 pounds, lowered his body fat by 13-percent and dropped 50 points off his cholesterol. It’s the latest trend at the Cenegenics Medical Institute in Las Vegas.

“We can manage the way we age, so at the age of 68, I can do the same things I did when I was 20,” says Dr. Robert Willix

Patients go through a seven-hour physical and then have a nutrition, exercise and supplement plan designed for them. But some worry this is taking us down a dangerous road medicine has traveled before.

“We used to think that by replacing estrogen, we would rejuvenate women, and low and behold, we found the opposite. We actually created more heart disease, blood clots and cognitive impairment than we prevented,” says Dr. Lewis Lipsitz, director of the Institute for Aging Research in Boston.

When it comes to HCG, there’s still uncertainty. Read more

HCG Diet Side Effects, Safety and Health Concerns

May 26, 2010

The FDA still has not approved HCG injections for use as a weight loss aid even thought it works so well. The FDA has not found enough evidence during its research to indicate that Hcg is effective as a weight loss aid, although thousands of people have used HCG and have successfully lost large amounts of weight.

For women using Hcg for fertility treatment there are a few potential side effects. Women using Hcg for her fertility issues have reported experiencing occasional headaches as well as experiencing symptoms that are often associated with being pregnant. For patients using Hcg for weight loss, however, these side effects are even rarer because the amount of Hcg used is significantly less than that used for fertility purposes. Read more

Fake Botox — a security threat?

May 26, 2010

So you may feel a little insecure when you look at Mom or Dad and they’re suddenly not able to smile anymore, or Aunt Millie is drooping at the eyelids from a botched botulinum-toxin job. But scholars at the Monterey Institute’s James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies see a security threat of a different type. Writing in the June issue of Scientific American, they argue that the proliferation of counterfeit Botox worldwide — fueled by consumer demand — has made the toxin, which is deadly in sufficient quantities, far more easily available for would-be bioterrorists than it was in the past.

“The fake cosmetic products generally contain real toxin, albeit in widely varying amounts,” a release from the Monterey Institute notes. One little vial would pose no threat, they say — but what if some group with ill intent decided to buy in bulk or go into the botulinum-toxin production business for themselves? Read more

Allergan rallies fat fighters, doctor chills

May 21, 2010

Allergan launches political campaign to help overweight citizens

The maker of Botox and the Lap-Band weight-loss stomach band has launched a campaign seeking a change in people’s attitude about obesity — from thinking of it as a moral failure to understanding it as a disease.

Irvine-based Allergan is also urging people to petition Congress for legislation to expand insurance coverage of weight-loss options such as the adjustable Lap-Band.

“There’s more than a principle at stake for Allergan. The Lap-Band is mostly not covered by health insurance in the U.S. As it costs about $14,000 out of pocket, only the wealthy can get it,” says the online CBS business network BNET in the article “Why Allergan Is Turning a Surgical Device Into a Political Cause.”

In the campaign, which it launched last week, Allergan wants people to get involved through:A contest for the best essays and videos describing the effects of a Lap-Band. Winners will get a free trip to Washington, D.C., to lobby for the cause. Read more

Array of Uses for Botox

May 21, 2010

BOTOX has been the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedure for many years and in 2009 there were about 2.5 million procedures done in the U.S., according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

BOTOX is derived from a protein made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The protein is toxic and causes botulism when ingested in large amounts. Botulism paralyzes all the body’s muscles, including the heart muscle, causing death. However, BOTOX uses tiny amounts and the injections are done to specific muscles. The effect is then to temporarily paralyze the injected muscle for a desired cosmetic improvement.

Cosmetic Uses

The most common reason BOTOX is used cosmetically is to smooth out frown lines and horizontal forehead lines. It can also be used to treat crows’ feet, the laugh lines at the outside edge of each eye, and fine lines around the lips. Read more

Plastic Surgeons And Cosmetic Physicians Managing Nonsurgical cosmetic practices Speak Out!

May 20, 2010

There could be a meaningful initiative happening in aesthetic medicine… clear conversation.

Medical Spa MD’s cosmetic surgery, cosmetic dermatologist, cosmetic laser reviews, and medical center community forums are the arena of an unexpected discussion that is more than just unusual in medicine, it is unique.

Bothered by exactly what plenty of physicians view as an incomprehensible and shocking deficiency of support coming from aesthetic laser and Intense pulsed light (IPL) companies, they’ve taken their frustration public through a type of free-for-all tongue-lashing that you simply rarely notice coming from cosmetic dermatologists when ‘names are named’ and fingers are directed directly at identified people who are leading distinguished laser and IPL manufacturers.

Some times, unabbreviated strings of messages are actually circulated describing conversations and widely embarrassing top professionals and in some cases cosmetic surgeons which are luminary spokespeople for all these organizations. It can be as though the cosmetic dermatologists decided to learn hard ball.

There is certainly still a little bit of common sense remaining. Almost all of the cosmetic surgeons remarks are produced anonymously and so the medical conversation forums that sponsor a majority of these discussions safeguard the cosmetic surgeons wishing to keep within some amount of secrecy.
