Plastic surgery popular despite economic woes: poll

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - Most women under 50 have not turned their backs, or faces, on cosmetic beauty-enhancement, despite the state of the economy.

While the recession continues, a poll of 1,000 women carried out this month showed that 63 percent aged 18-34 and 73 percent of women aged 35-49 thought positively of age-camouflaging procedures.

Of the younger bracket in favor of cosmetic work, 44 percent said they consider Botox — administered by syringe to smooth out frown lines — to be a “routine” procedure, according to a survey conducted by E-Poll Market Research and commissioned by cable television network Oxygen Media. Carboxytherapy and Mesotherapy Unproven, Warns The Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety

(Vocus/PRWEB ) July 30, 2009 — The Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety today issued a consumer warning about carboxytherapy and mesotherapy injections. These products, touting everything from cellulite treatment to weight loss are not FDA approved, and do not have clinical data that demonstrates results or safety.

Carboxytherapy uses carbon dioxide gas injected under the skin to reduce the look of cellulite, treatment of dark under-eye circles, and stretch marks and is also touted for fat sculpting on the face and the body. “Although many websites or providers claim carboxytherapy is safe and FDA approved, it has not been clinically tested or FDA approved for these purposes,” says Coalition leader Robert Weiss, MD of Baltimore, MD. “Carboxytherapy for use around the eyes is especially dangerous. It could potentially release gas bubbles into blood vessels causing blindness. In addition, the risks of putting carbon dioxide in your body are currently unknown.”

Mesotherapy, also known as injection lipolysis, is a mixture of vitamins, drugs and enzymes that are compounded (mixed together) to make the injected substance. Read more

               

Feel the burn? Follow these tips to care for your sunburn

Fun in the sun is the name of the game when it comes to summer, and here in Arizona it doesn’t take too much time to overdo it.

The signs of a sunburn are pretty obvious, but don’t think all is lost if you feel the burn coming on.

Dermatologist, Dr. Jennifer Linder, says there are few things you can do to lessen the impact of the burn if you catch it early enough.
