2009 Trends And Predictions From The Editors Of Consumer Guide To Plastic Surgery
December 29, 2008
The editors of Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery have gazed into their crystal balls to see what nips and tucks Americans will be seeking in 2009. From how the economy will affect cosmetic surgery to which new products will come to market, here’s what we will see more - or less - of in the coming year:
Less is more in 2009. The economic recession will spur many consumers to re-evaluate their cosmetic surgery plans. More people may choose less invasive procedures such as injectables and fillers instead of major surgeries, to buy time until the economy rebounds. In fact, a recent poll of consumers and plastic surgeons released at the annual scientific meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in Chicago found that 27 percent of the survey participants were considering less expensive options, compared with 20 percent six months ago. The Hybrid Lift Combines Two Procedures for a Natural-Looking Face Lift
December 29, 2008
The facial plastic surgeons at Profiles Beverly Hills have developed a minimally - invasive procedure that offers excellent cosmetic results that last. The rage for a few years was the “minimally-invasive face lift” -Feather lift, Lunchtime lift, and the list goes on and on. But for anyone who is considering one of these procedures, it’s important to understand that these are all variations of a “tuck up” procedure that, frankly, does not last. Today, more than ever, there is a variety of options that range from a mini face lift to the deep plane face lift - and now, the new Hybrid Lift.
The Hybrid Lift™ is performed through a small incision just in front of and behind the ear. The skin is lifted in the lower face and neck, but then we go into a deeper plane to lift the sagging tissues underneath the skin. It’s this lift that actually creates a lasting, naturally beautiful outcome and minimizes bruising of the skin, shortening recovery time. All the tension of the lift is placed on these deep tissues so the skin can drape naturally over the jaw line and cheek bones without ever having a hint of a “pulled” look. The excess saggy skin is tailored and removed via the smaller incision which leaves less scarring and also leads to a quicker recovery. Read more
Keeping Up Appearances In a Downturn
December 29, 2008
Vanity appears to be trumping frugality in a looks-conscious society.
Despite the dismal economic climate, most women — and men — who undergo appearance-enhancing treatments such as Botox injections are spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year to maintain the regimen, aesthetic physicians say. Meanwhile, some older patients who are putting off or forgoing expensive facelifts are instead opting for less-costly injections and laser treatments. Read more
It’s All About the Patient Referral
December 15, 2008
A word of mouth referral is the absolute best advertisement you can get to grow your aesthetic practice. It’s also the cheapest form of advertising that you can invest in and it takes so little time and effort.
The best patient for your practice is the referred patient. It is golden when a friend tells another friend, family member or colleague about you in a positive light. Because the referred patient is already pre-sold on you, they are not as price sensitive and they are more likely to stay loyal to you. Word-of-mouth referrals will also increase your closing ratios, decrease your external marketing costs and grow your practice. Word of mouth referrals are cheap, easy and painless – you can’t ask for more than that. Read more
Aesthetic Accreditation Agency Established
December 15, 2008
Recently in California, medical spas have been the target of legislation intended to regulate the medical spa industry. Aesthetic Accreditation Agency was established in 2008 due to new legislative changes that seek to improve patient safety and the standard of care in the medical spa setting. While hospitals and surgery centers have been accredited by several organizations for decades, the aesthetic facility environment has not had a dedicated accreditation program that examines all aspects of patient safety and quality care. Aesthetic Accreditation Agency is an accrediting and consulting program which will continually monitor and implement advances in aesthetic quality patient care. This requires constant review and revision of standards to reflect the latest changes and developments. We are at the forefront of legislative efforts to provide patients with safety and quality assurance in the medical spa setting. Read more
Less invasive plastic-surgery options may be beneficial
December 15, 2008
Given today’s busy lifestyle and hectic schedule, it is often difficult or impossible to arrange a week to recover from a procedure. This is part of the reason that less invasive options have become so popular over the last decade. In 2007, 4.6 million people had Botox injections, over 1 million had a hyaluronic acid filler, over 1 million had a chemical peel, and laser hair removal and microdermabrasion were each performed more than 1 million times each in 2007.
